Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay

Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay (English: When Were We Ever Truthful) emphasizes how much the shortcomings and inadequacies of parents haunt their children in a traditional Eastern community. Children from broken homes are constantly scrutinized behind their parents’ backs.
Three stories are included in it: Halal-e-Jurrat, Band Kiwaron Ke Aagey, and Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay. This novel was published in episodic form between August 1998 and November 1998 in the Monthly Kiran Digest.

Mashal, Aswaad, and Mehreen are the three main characters of this novel. Mishal is a stunning young woman. She is adored by all. You would believe that because she was raised in a wealthy family and has access to everything, she has everything she could possibly want—but does she really? However, Mishal’s cousin Mehreen is a less-than-beautiful girl with a troubling past. Her rudeness and misbehavior have irritated everyone. These two females live in the same house and compete against one other. And wedged between these two is Aswad, a charming young man who is their cousin, enamored with Mishal, and detested by Mehreen. Though all three of them believe they have their lives planned out to the letter, is it really possible for so much animosity and rivalry to result in positive outcomes?

Though academically talented and well-behaved, Mehreen (Mahira Khan) effectively becomes an orphan and a liability after her mother remarries and her father, a drug addict, commits suicide. Because of her father’s troubled past, she moves in with her grandmother and cousin Mashal’s (Kubra Khan) family, who treat her like a servant and continuously talk down to her.

Mashal and Mehreen were childhood friends, but as Mashal grows more and more envious of Mehreen’s skill at everything, their friendship takes a terrible turn. Mashal will stop at nothing to torment Mehreen; she kills her pet bird, discards her inhaler, informs everyone that Mehreen has a new boyfriend every three months, and sets fire to her clothes to give the impression that she smokes. Additionally, Mashal assumes Mehreen’s character by claiming that all of her artwork and awards are her own because she knows that Mehreen is in love with Aswad (Usman Mukhtar). When Aswad returns to Pakistan, he is completely poisoned against Mehreen, and Mashal is confident that Aswad is going to marry her soon.
